I would be very curious to know where you’re rooted in England — 25% of me (my highest percentage) is from Southern England, with the next from East Anglia.

There is no reason to believe our John Gage is descended from John and Jane Lufkin, though it is very likely they were connected a few generations away (it was the Normans who brought surnames to England).

In spite of the blogger’s assertions, nobody in my family knew that Firle was “a thing” until the mid 1940s — until then, it was just a town our ancestor came from. There is an anecdote about Abner Gage singing a little ditty about it, and he fought in the Revolutionary War, so not too far removed. I imagine it’s the same for many descendants of this line. There were several John Gages born around this time; in fact, two were living at Firle, both sons of (cousin) John Gages!

But, Josh, as a male Gage, your dna results could put this all to rest!

Cheers, Julie Stewart, printme@aol.com.Skatecutehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10299636093707782088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6796453294242204514.post-4884669603646690712021-01-09T10:50:54.933-08:002021-01-09T10:50:54.933-08:00Thanks for posting this. John was given land across from the location you have described as "the brown house". The "brown house" is former residence of Arthur Wesley Dow, a local artist. Gage's first wife's name was most likely Anne or Anna. I think the Amee or Amy came from illegible writing on historical documents.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01997866315905819814noreply@blogger.com
